We are a passionate, Black-led, grassroots, volunteer organization working with families who are caring for a
loved one with a disability. We are committed to bettering outcomes for Black caregivers and those living with a disability. Sawubona provides a safe space for Black families to network, build connections, problem-solve, share resources, feel less isolated, and have others to talk to – who get it.

Mission Statement: The MISSION of Sawubona Africentric Circle of Support is to cultivate and improve the
self-efficacy of Black caregivers of persons with a disability and their families by providing necessary resources and support.

Vision Statement: Sawubona's VISION is for every Black caregiver of a family member with a disability to feel a sense of belonging.

Deberes

The Program Coordinator will:

● Provide leadership support to achieve the overall goals, vision and mission of Sawubona ACS

● Develop and facilitate programs and support for families; and conduct community outreach

● Coordinate activities, events, workshops and meetings for Sawubona ACS. This may include meeting material preparation and dissemination, communications with speakers, vendors and identifying venues

● Recruit, onboard and coordinate volunteers to support the programs, activities and needs of families

● Support with Grant writing, proposal development; managing program budgets, reporting and accountability to funders

● Effectively managing communications with internal/external stakeholders including promoting organization through social media

● Develop and maintain partnerships and partnership-related documentation

● Recommend new partnerships, stakeholders, and individuals and actively participate in relevant local and network meetings

● Provide administrative support to the Executive Director, and the overall organization, including social media, organizing meetings and minute-taking. Will demonstrate discretion, integrity and professionalism regarding the handling of confidential matters

● Use strong computer and office productivity skills to undertake formatting and proofreading of documents, creation of correspondence, presentations and other documentation that pertain to the strategic planning process or other key meetings, organizational changes and various other proposals that will require strong organizational skills

● Act as a resource for daily queries by way of phone calls and emails and make referrals appropriately to relevant organization members

● A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check

● Perform other administrative duties as required

Calificaciones y habilidades

● The ideal candidate will be someone with strong interest in working with the Black community, working with families and/or supporting those with disabilities. It may be an individual who has completed post secondary studies or at least in their 2nd year of studies in data science, research-based program, project management, psychology/sociology/social work, Social Service Worker, Developmental Support Worker or Child Development Worker

● Excellent written, verbal communication skills

● Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively allocate your time to complete important
productive tasks

● Strong organizational and priority settings skills

● Lived experience or demonstrated experience working with/within BIPOC/disability organizations/groups

● Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and/or G-Suite

● A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organized, self-starter, and committed individual, who has strong networking skills. Having Grant writing experience, social media skills and knowledge of the disabled community are assets. Reporting to the Executive Director, this candidate will be expected to work well individually and within strict timelines.
